12-month photovoltaic installations in Italy

Good news from the Italian photovoltaics market in the last 12 months: almost 140 MW connected to the Italian grid up to July 2008.
Roughly 80% of the total (110 MW) has been completed within the last 12 months, while 51 kW of the total has been certainly started and completed during the last 12 months. The figures come from the Italian Energy Authority (GSE) web site. The Italian market in the last 12 months has been growing at a rate somewhere between 70 and 110 MW. The rate sounds humble compared to the German yearly PV power fed to the grid - around 700 MW - but it's a success worth a mention given the teething problems of the Italian market.
Two big issues are still holding back the expected boom: [1] the absence of large-capacity module manufacturers based in Italy and [2] the development of a consistent distributor-and-installer supply chain, able to deliver the plants quickly and cheaply.
But the on-line search for PV experts in design and deployment of large-size plants is packing the net, a clue to what is coming up for the next 12-month period.
